Programs
and Special Events
Harriet, Angel, Columbia and
Donald,
our Education Eagles are available almost all hours we are open,
either in our eagle viewing area where they are tethered out in
the open, or in one of our Eagle Feeding and Education programs .
Educational Programs
Educational Programs are usually held from 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and
3 p.m.
each day, although during summer, weekends and other busy
times we hold the programs numerous times per day, providing
visitors many opportunities to learn about our national bird, as
well as participate in Q & A sessions. All Feeding
Programs are open to all visitors!
Group Programs
Group programs are available, and recommended for groups
of ten or more people. Each program involves an eagle handler with
explanation of the lives and habits of eagles, and if requested an
eagle feeding program may be able to be provided (depending on our
bird's appetite, etc).
There is a small fee for In-house group programs, and
advance registration is required. Here is just a Sampling
of 2006 National Eagle Center Programs that were given.
Outreach Programs
Harriet, Angel and Columbia are available to make personal
appearances for programs and events. Ideally they should be
scheduled with the National Eagle Center Staff as far in advance
as possible to allow for flexibility regarding scheduling and eagle
availability.
Basic eagle programs last an hour and fees start at $350. Longer
programs, special events, or additional eagles are also possible.
Please contact the Director of Programs and Public Relations for
more information about programs and scheduling. Visit our Sample
Itinerary page for an example from a recent program.
Soar with the Eagles
Each year the National Eagle Center hosts Soar, an event to
herald the start of the migration season, the beginning of boat
traffic and lots of other wildlife activity in the area. Visit our Soar
with the Eagles page for more details.
Eagle Sightings
From November through March of each year individuals help the
National Eagle Center sight and document migrating eagles.
Participants look for eagles over the rivers, in trees, and
catching the wind over the bluffs. During this time of the year
eagles can be seen sitting out on the ice, especially if there is
open water near.
Participants turn in there
information to the National Eagle Center, who then collates and
publishes the data. For more information, sighting forms, past
sighting data and suggested routes visit our Bald
Eagle Sightings and Tracking page.
National Eagle Center
Annual Photo Contest
Photos for the National Eagle Center's official 2009 calendar
are chosen each year by a panel of judges. Visit our Photo
Contest page for more details.
